We made our portafolios and notecards. *Please request these from if you were absent!

We practiced with our vocabulary list, both with pronunciation and meanings through various group activities.

Finally, we talked about why it is important to learn about culture while learning a language and then we took a quick 'tour' through Spain!

Welcome again to Spanish 2!

Today we learned 100+ new words in Spanish! (Or at least a few tools to help us recognize cognates in Spanish.)

We went over the syllabus in great detail - please keep this in your folder at all times...remember, the packet contains your extra credit for the semester!

Tarea:

1. Log in to Moodle. GO TO: moodle.waunakee.k12.wi.us
Click on World Languages 
Click on Español II
Type in Enrollment Key, either 1a, 4a, or 4b

2. In Moodle find: Vocabulario U1 and fill out the first two pages of the vocabulary packet (and/or print it from Moodle.) Also, you may want to upload it to your Google Drive - a great place to store lists as well! But you do need a physical copy with you for our next class.

3. Fill out Syllabus Survey on Moodle (this can be done before A- 9/8 / B - 9/9).

4. Non-freshmen - Pick out 2 Spanish names that you are interested in using as your Spanish name this year!

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2014-2015!

Welcome to Spanish 2!

This BLOG will be a great resource for you throughout this school year. Be sure to check back often to see if you have missed anything...either because you missed it during class or you were absent. (One of the best things you can say to me after being absent is, "I checked the blog and did my homework, but I wanted to ask you about...") :)

I try to update every other day, usually on A days (B day students, you have an advantage, you can usually get a preview of what we will be doing in your next class!) I always write the A day and B day date on top of the assignment, then I list what we went over in class. If we took notes, I lead you to the right place to find those notes as well as the corresponding pages in the packet. You will also find your homework assignment.

I would love it if you signed up for updates from this blog so that whenever I update you will receive an e-mail with that update. I encourage your parents to do so too!

We did some MAD LIBS (muy chistosos) to practice the stem changing verbs, irregular preterites, and vocab.

 
We did a final practice for IDOPs- study STUDY for the quiz next class!

 
We went on an ‘aventura virtual’ to practice appropriate responses for waiters’ questions!

¡Qué rico!  We spent some time today celebrating Spain’s culture by sharing some delicious tapas!

We practiced answering questions with Indirect Object Pronouns with tableros.  If you are not feeling confident with IOPs, please come see us!

We did partner activities to practice interpreting Menís del Día and having a conversation with the server.


The homework for tonight is Actividades y Cultura page 21.  If you were  not here to get inspiration for creating your menu, please use foods from www.tienda.com/recipes to make your menu del dia.

Today we played Chispita to practice spelling aloud J

We reviewed the Indirect Object Pronoun a LOT today- if you are having a hard time please come in and talk to me or email me at autumnslosser@waunakee.k12.wi.us to set up a time to come in and chat- I would LOVE to help you get on track!

We started an activity about how to respond to questions- please ask a friend or come see me for the notes at the top of A+C p. 19.

We learned about menús del día and worked with groups to see how we would react to different menús. 

We also did the final sign up for the Tapas crawl- if you have not signed up yet, please come in and do so ASAP!  The tapas crawl is on the 15th (A) and 16th (B) de mayo, and you need to bring in your dish all ready to serve, your card, and $1 for supplies.  You may bring in your money early if you are nervous about forgetting.

el 5 / 6 de mayo

Today we started a series of pronunciation exercises in class using the vocales (AEIOU).

We learned about how common Spanish foods are made and did a comparison with Mexican foods and traditions for Cinco de Mayo.  Remember-  CINCO DE MAYO IS NOT MEXICO’S INDEPENDENCE DAY! :) 

We practiced conjugating stem-changing verbs in the present and preterit.  Please make sure to check online that you have the correct notes!

We started a practice on the indirect object pronouns- make sure you bring the half sheets to next class!

Next class we will also be signing up for foods for the TAPAS crawl on the 15th and 16th.  Make sure to find your recipes at http://www.tienda.com/recipes/recipes.html

If you want to sign up with a partner, make sure to coordinate this before next class! 

You will NOT need to multiply this recipe for the whole class, as everyone is bringing in food.

Today in class, we took grammar notes on Direct Object Pronouns (review)  and Indirect Object Pronouns (new) in the Paquete de Gramática U8 p 3-5.  Notes are on Moodle.  Both people who were in class and were not should make sure they have the correct notes!

We learned about ‘Las Horas de Comer en Espana.’  If you missed the notes are on Moodle as well. 

We learned vocabulary for ‘Carne y Mariscos.’  Make sure these sections of vocab are filled out.
 
We passed out the rubric for our presentational task:  The tapas crawl.  We will be making tapas and eating them here in class!  You may work alone or with a partner.  Please start thinking about what you would like to make. You must choose a recipe from this website: La Tienda  If you were not here, please stop by and pick up a rubric.  Here are the dates:

El 29 y 30 de abril

Wow!  45 minutos son muy pocos!

We did a dialogue with partners to practice new vocabulary.

We watched a video about good manners in Spain and filled out a worksheet in 'Actividades y Cultura.'  We will be using these ideas all semseter, so make sure if you missed you go to

and watch the first 5 minutes and fill out pages 1 and 2 in Actividades y Cultura.

We finished taking Stem-Changing verb notes in the present and preterite, so make sure you have the moodle notes in your Apuntes de Gramatica pp 1+2.

Make sure you are keeping up with the vocab list!  We are only adding a few sections per class.  Here is the new list of sections you need:

Today a new activity was introduced - "Mesero/a del día".

After Mesero del día students were introduced to new vocabulary through a short skit.

Students were also taught to set the table and then practiced with a short competition!

Finally, they were put to the test as they sampled different condiments.

Meanwhile students worked on their presentational task, which is due (A) Friday, April 25 and (B) Monday, April 28. The green outline that is attached to the rubric was due (to be checked) by the end of the class hour.

Remember, this presentational task is written, not oral. It does, however, need to be handed in by your classtime on the due date, fully assembled or fully accessible via Moodle (turn in link is on Moodle.)

el 21/22 de abril

Lots of practice today!

We worked on forming the superlative in class with a small group guessing activity.

Then we spent a good deal of time reviewing direct object pronouns. We worked on forming sentences with direct object pronouns as well answering questions.

Finally, we practiced for the interpersonal task that will take place Wednesday (23- A day) / Thursday (24 B-day).

el 16/17 de abril

Today we practiced with irregular preterit and meanings before taking the irregular preterit quiz and interpretive task. (*Be sure to set up a time to make these up if you were absent!)

We practiced with direct objects/direct object pronouns.

We then practiced using Rejoinders (AC p. 16) in preparation for our Interpersonal task.

el 14/'15 de abril

Today we went over notes for the superlativo (the most or the least). G.U.6 pgs. 4-5 - notes are on Moodle.

We then practiced the irregular preterit with the dice game and sillas musicales. We then did a quick self-assessment on the irregular preterits to check what we need to study.

We practiced the interpretive task - both a reading and listening section about the beach. Review that vocabulary from Unit 6!

El 10 /11 de abril

Today in class we used the song El Torero by Orquesta Guayacan to contextualize our cultural vocab and learn about Spainish influence in Colombia.

We started class today with an introduction from our student teacher, Srta. S!

We then practiced vocabulary in preparation for the vocabulary quiz that will take place this Thursday/Friday. We practiced through Lotería (AC p. 23) and Oiga/Diga. *Please focus on "En la Playa" and "Actividades en la Playa" from the vocabulary list.

We then reviewed the irregular preterit through Ta ta ti.

Finally, we reviewed the Corrida de Toros through Part 1 of a video called "La Fiesta Brava".

In class today we reviewed vocabulary through a partner activity and a new activity called "Profesor del día".

We finished our video introducing us to the Costa del Sol and students started a rough draft of a postcard detailing what they did in the Costa del Sol.

We reviewed vocabulary through the activity 'Gestos'.

We then practiced the preterit tense and asking and answering questions with a partner in preparation for this unit's intpersonal task. We then looked at pictures of the vocabulary word to practice responding to what others have done on vacation.

1st hour only - took notes on Irregular Preterit, U6, pages 1-2. All other classes will take these notes next class.

We then took notes on La Corrida de Toros (AC p. 1-4)

Happy first day back from break!

Today students completed their Presentational task paragraph in class.  *If you are absent be sure to set up a time to make this up!

After the paragraph we learned more about the novel Don Quixote, and read four sections from the novel. Students completed pages 4, 5 and 7 from the yellow Don Quixote packet. (If you are absent be sure to pick up a reading from me and complete these 3 pages in the packet!)

We practice/reviewed for the quiz using conjugeumos.com activities before taking the preterit quiz.

Then we practiced making high proficiency sentences in small groups to practice for the paragraph presentational task this Wednesday/Thursday.

We then started learning about Don Quixote de la Mancha, the most famous novel to come out of Spain, by Miguel de Cervantes.

In class we practiced with the preterit tense with the activities Puntos and a preterit worksheet. Then we filled out a sheet that lists words that indicate that the preterit will be used (words like yesterday, last week, last year, etc.)

We then incorporated the preterit tense and these time expressions into a paragraph about chores based on several pictures. This is a practice activity for the presentational task that will take place next Wednesday/Thursday. *If you are going to be gone early for break, please be sure to do this paragraph BEFORE you leave!

Today we practiced with a listening activity and students were able to pick their challenge level to decipher what chores the speaker liked to do, did not like to do, and wanted to hire a 'chacha' to do.

Then we played Lotería to review the preterit tense.

We finished up presentations from the students who were absent last class. Then we took a quick survey to find out how often we did certain chores in our homes. We will use these results to compare how often students in Waunakee do chores to how often students in Valladolid, Spain do chores.

We then took notes in AC pgs. 1-3 (please pick copy these notes from another student in class if you were absent. *You will be responsible for this information for the interpretive task this unit!)

We took a few minutes at the beginning of class to go over our recent grammar quizzes.

Today we practiced saber/conocer, demonstrative adjectives/pronouns (este, ese, aquel, etc.) and vocabulary before taking the QUIZ.

After the quiz we discussed the expectations for the Interpersonal. (Please pick up a rubric for the Interpersonal task from me if you were absent.)

Students then tried to identify different artworks based on their knowledge of the artists' styles. (This Power Point is a great practice for the upcoming art quiz and can be found on MOODLE!)

Finally, the Presentational task rubric was passed out. We will go through this more next class. (Please pick up a rubric from me if you were absent.)

el 14/17 de febrero

Today we took notes on Picasso (AC p. 10 - Notes on Moodle) and then we made our own works of art in Picasso's style through using the website www.picassohead.com. (AC p. 19) We then critiqued our own work of art and another student's work of art, then compared the two works of art. (AC p. 20).

The assignment for next class is to create an original work of art based on the styles of one of the artists we have studied. (Pick up handout with specific directions from me.) This is to be an original, NOT a copy of the artist's own works.

Also note: The ART / ARTIST / MUSEUM quiz has been moved UP to February 20/21.

We then did a practice quiz on the four artists we have studied so far, as well as a listening activity on four works of art we have not studied. Students tried to discern which work of art that was being described by listening to a description in Spanish. (The practice quiz is AC p. 23)

Today we took time to critique different paintings by El Greco and Dalií. Then we compared our answers to other students who critiqued the same painting.

Students took a quick quiz on Dalií and El Greco...testing on what they remembered about each artist (no grade taken, just practice!)

We then took notes on Diego Velázquez (AC p. 7 - notes on Moodle.)

We looked over Moodle 2 and then did some practice with gustar type verbs.

Today we reviewed the two museums by completing the activity on page 11 of Actividades y Cultura.

We practiced listening and drawing a painting by El Greco. Then the students described works by Dalí to each other.

We took notes on Dalí  (Notes on Moodle - AC p. 6)and watched a portion of his movie with Walt Disney called "Destino" as well as a part of his movie, "A Soft Self-Portrait". (Notes on Moodle)

Today we looked at more art and gave opinions about what we thought about the paintings using our new vocabulary list.

We took notes on El Greco (AC p. 5 - Power Point on Moodle.) *Be sure to get these notes if you were absent! It is better to actually view the Power Point than copy the notes so that you can see the paintings in color.

We also took notes on Ir/Ser/Hacer in the preterit. *This is from UNIDAD 5, p. 3 of the Gramática packet. The notes are on Moodle.

Finally, students who did not finish the museum investigation (AC p. 2-4) should complete it before doing Moodle 1.

Today we started a new unit on "El Arte Español" (Unidad 7). We are completing the units a bit out of order this semester, but I feel that the sequence with grammar will line up better.

el 14/15 de enero

After we viewed presentations from those students who were absent last class we dove right into reviewing for the semester exam. Students had the opportunity to participate in 10 different stations, reviewing grammar and vocabulary from each unit, as well as a station dedicated to culture and reading/listening interpretation.

el 8/9 de enero

I hope that everyone is well-rested after an extra 'bonus' vacation!

Today we reviewed using reflexive verbs in infinitive phrases. Then students had work time for the presentational task, which is due (A day) January 10 and (B day) January 13.

Semester Exam review packets were handed out as well. These can be picked up anytime. The packets include the format of the multiple choice portion of the test and the details for the interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational assessments.
