Today we did a couple of verb practices before taking the Interpretive task and the irregular/stem-change quiz.

After the quiz we worked on our rough drafts for our letters that we will write in class on Tuesday - A/Wednesday-B.

Students received the rubric for the Interpersonal and we talked about expectations for the Interpersonal task on Tuesday-A/Wednesday-B.

el 25/26 de septiembre

Today students practiced irregular and stem-changing verbs with an activity called Barco de Batalla.

We then practiced for our Interpretive task (9/27 and 9/30) with a listening activity where a Spanish student named Jerónimo listed off the classes he has on Monday. Students had to identify which classes they heard him say. *For the Interpretive task students will have to list the classes they are currently taking.  A great way to practice the spelling of the class is through these flashcards (try the RECALL activity!)

We practiced for the Interpersonal task (10/1 and 10/2) by finding a class in common with another student and then discussing that class in greater detail.  Students did a great job working on extending their conversation and using Spanish II vocabulary.  A great way to practice the pronunciation of class is through these flashcards.

We talked about the Presentational task (10/1 and 10/2) as well and began writing a rough draft of a letter to tell Jaime about schools in Waunakee and compare them with schools in Spain. We will continue this writing practice next class.

el 23/24 de septiembre

Today we did some practice activities before taking a quiz on classroom vocabulary and a quiz on regular verbs.

We then took notes on stem-changing (boot verbs, G. p. 5, notes on Moodle) and irregular verbs (G. p. 5, notes on Moodle).  Students will be quizzed on these verbs on Friday/Monday (27/30 of Sept.)

We did a conjugation practice of these new verbs.  We then filled in our class schedule with the classes we are taking in preparation for our upcoming interpretive task (this Friday/Monday).

In 1A, 2B and 4B we watched our Skype conversation with Jaime, a friend from Madrid.  You can watch it here!

el 19/20 de septiembre

Today students received their quizzes back and were able to ask questions and evaluate their performance on it.  *Students may retake one quiz per quarter.  This would be a great quiz to retake.  The two scores will be AVERAGED together.

To retake a quiz you must:
1) Set up a time to make corrections on your quiz in my classroom.
2) Set up a second time to take the new quiz.
3) This must be done within one week (A day has until Sept. 26, B day has until Sept. 27)

After Preguntas Del Día students practiced vocabulary through several activities (Brinca Brinca and Pégalo).

We then looked at how regular verbs translate to English before working on a conjugation/meaning activity to review verbs.

We took notes on the verb GUSTAR (G. p. 11, Notes are on Moodle) and La hora (G. p. 9 y 10).

Tarea: Moodle 6 and STUDY SCHOOL MATERIALS and REGULAR VERBS for the QUIZ next class.

el 17/18 de septiembre

Today we started practicing for our Interpersonal task, holding a conversation with another student for a set amount of time.  The students were surprised at how LONG 2 minutes can be when trying to converse in Spanish.  One of our goals this year is to improve their ability to maintain conversations in Spanish. Try listening to (and signing along with) this song to improve your pronunciation.

We also talked about the interpretive task, which includes comparing a Spanish student's schedule with our own school schedule.

We then practiced adjectives, noun/adjective agreement and making comparisons before starting our very first quiz in Level 2. *If you miss class YOU are responsible for setting up a time outside of class to take the quiz!

Finally, we took notes on Regular Verbs (G. p. 4 - Notes on Moodle).

el 13/16 de septiembre

Today we interpreted tweets about schools and decided if the tweets showed negative or positive feelings about schools.

We then worked on interpreting notes on schools in Spain and compared how schools in the United States were similar or different.

We took notes on Comparisons (G. p. & - Notes on Moodle).

There is a QUIZ scheduled for NEXT class (Tuesday/Wednesday 17/18 Sept.).  On the quiz students will have to make sentences plural, use adjectives correctly (STUDY ALL ADJECTIVES FROM THE FIRST TWO PAGES OF THE VOCABULARY LIST!) and use comparisons (más adj. que, menos adj. que, tan adj. como.)  The Moodle homework is a GREAT practice for the quiz!

Here is a great website to help you study the adjectives (you will need to write them in Spanish and spell them correctly with NO word bank on the quiz!)  http://www.spanishdict.com/flashcards/108223/los-adjectivos-de-unidad-1-espaol-ii

el 5/6 de septiembre

Today we went through questions from Spanish I in the beginning of class.  These are questions that will be asked at the beginning of class each day.  Every student then chose a Spanish name.

Students took a look at the vocabulary list, tapping into prior knowledge of some of the words.  They worked collaboratively to fill out as much as they could with several partners.

We practiced conversations through a quick dialogue activity where students mingled and asked each other about favorite classes.

Finally, we watched a few scenarios that lead us to the answer for ¿Por qué estudiamos la cultura?

el 4 de septiembre - ¡El primer día!

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español II!

Today we learned 100 new words in Spanish by learning what the endings -dad, -ción, -mente, and -cia mean in English.  Many words are cognates and by knowing these endings we can understand many more words!

Tarea:
1. Syllabus survey 2013 on Moodle. (Your enrollment key is the number and day of your class, ex. 1a = 1a, etc.
2. Choose two Spanish name preferences...one that you want and a back up, just in case.  Come prepared or I may have to give you a name...!
