el 19/20 de diciembre

We spent a lot of time reviewing before the quiz/interpretive task:

  • We did two partner activities reviewing regular conjugations of reflexive verbs and reviewing the products that we use and the reflexive verbs they are associated with.
  • We did a quick conjugation practice.
  • We did an interpretive practice, which focused on learning about a person's daily routine and matching specific details to the routine.
  • We did AC p. 23 to practice identifying if verbs were to be used reflexively or not.
  • We did a quick interpretation practice where we looked at ads and wrote the product, the reflexive verb, and part of the body that corresponds with it.
Students then took the interpretive task and the vocabulary/grammar quiz. (Be sure to make this up if you are absent!)

Tarea: Moodle 6/7 (It focuses on Tener expressions, which are listed on the vocabulary list. Ex. Tengo hambre = I am hungry.)

¡Vaya!

We had a lot to cover today!

After questions of the day we worked on a partner activity to practice reading a train ticket one last time before taking the Interpretive task.

After the Interpretive task we took notes on Toledo. We then reviewed the 6 sites we have studied this unit.

Students then received a handout and explanation for both the Interpersonal task and the Presentational task (Be sure to PICK UP the rubrics from Sra. A if you are absent or will be gone the 20/21 of November!)

Students will work on the Presentational task while I call students to take the Interpersonal assessment during our next class.

Tarea:

Pick out and SAVE your six pictures for your Presentational task so that you are only working on the text of it for next class.

Practice for the Interpersonal task - find someone to read the 'agente' questions for you to respond to. Memorize the questions/responses!

EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY! Get to know some of the artists/songs nominated for Latin Grammy's!

For 2 points extra credit (remember, extra credit opportunities are RARE!):

Visit this site http://www.latingrammy.com/es/playlisthub and click on the genre of music that you like best. (You do need to have a Spotify account to do this.) Pick a song (or several) to listen to and send me an e-mail with this information:

(Copy and paste this next part in your e-mail and then add your information.)
1) The name of the artist
2) The name of the song
3) What Grammy category is it nominated for?
4) Do you think the song/album/artist will win it's category? Why or why not? (Or if it's after the Grammy's...did it win it's category? Do you think it should have won if it didn't? Why or why not?
5) Would you add this song to your iPod? Why or why not?

I need to have your email by November 25 at 11:59pm!

We then practiced for the interpretive task by doing the activity on page 20 of the Actividades y Cultura packet. We also did a listening practice. (The BBC activity on Moodle 6 is a great practice for this too!)

We then watched a short video of two students buying a train ticket and talked about the phrase, "¿Hay un descuento para estudiante?" and using the International Student Identity Card. (You will need one of these to use in your Interpersonal task. Be sure to pick one up from me.)

Finally, we visited www.renfe.com to 'purchase' some tickets to various places in Spain.

Today after Preguntas del Día we did a brief practice for the Present Progressive quiz. Students then took the short quiz.

We reviewed the six sites we studied this unit by identifying them with pictures.

Students then took the Interpretive Task (Forma Migratoria and identifying the sites through Yelp.com).

Finally, we discussed briefly what students will be expected to do on the upcoming presentational task. They should write a postcard on page 28 of the Actividades y Cultura packet to practice for this task. The guidelines for the writing practice are:
1. What are you doing today in Madrid? (Use pres. prog.)
2. What are you going to do tomorrow? (Use ir a + inf.)
3. What do you have to do in order to see/visit those places? (Use tener que + infinitive)
*Be sure to include LOTS of culture in your postcard!

Tarea: Review the six sites (your notes or through PPTs on Moodle) and write the practice postcard on AC p. 28.

el 22/23 de octubre

Today we worked on two quick practices getting ready for the assessments next class. Students worked on a partner activity using the present progressive (quiz next class on formation!) and then individually they filled out another immigration form (forma migratoria) to get ready for the Interpretive Task.

Before we took notes on the final site we learning about this unit, el Palacio Real (AC p. 6, notes are on Moodle) we reviewed the other five sites by matching a description to the name.

We spent a lot of time writing complex sentences in Spanish and reviewing the sites of Madrid that we have studied. Students worked in small groups and prepared a sentence that included a specific grammar concept and culture based on a picture they were shown in class. The complexity and depth of the sentences improved immensely during the activity!

Finally, we took a look at the second part of the Interpretive Task, which will be to figure out what place in Madrid is being reviewed taken directly from yelp.com in Spanish. (AC p. 11)

We took notes on La Plaza Mayor - the first set of notes in a series of 6. The Power Point can be found on Moodle.  These notes MUST be taken in preparation for our presentational task and the information will be found on our semester exam on January. It is NOT enough to copy another student's notes, it is important to see the pictures on the Power Point as well.

Today students practiced irregular and stem-changing verbs with an activity called Barco de Batalla.

We then practiced for our Interpretive task (9/27 and 9/30) with a listening activity where a Spanish student named Jerónimo listed off the classes he has on Monday. Students had to identify which classes they heard him say. *For the Interpretive task students will have to list the classes they are currently taking.  A great way to practice the spelling of the class is through these flashcards (try the RECALL activity!)

We practiced for the Interpersonal task (10/1 and 10/2) by finding a class in common with another student and then discussing that class in greater detail.  Students did a great job working on extending their conversation and using Spanish II vocabulary.  A great way to practice the pronunciation of class is through these flashcards.

We talked about the Presentational task (10/1 and 10/2) as well and began writing a rough draft of a letter to tell Jaime about schools in Waunakee and compare them with schools in Spain. We will continue this writing practice next class.

Today students received their quizzes back and were able to ask questions and evaluate their performance on it.  *Students may retake one quiz per quarter.  This would be a great quiz to retake.  The two scores will be AVERAGED together.

To retake a quiz you must:
1) Set up a time to make corrections on your quiz in my classroom.
2) Set up a second time to take the new quiz.
3) This must be done within one week (A day has until Sept. 26, B day has until Sept. 27)

After Preguntas Del Día students practiced vocabulary through several activities (Brinca Brinca and Pégalo).

We then looked at how regular verbs translate to English before working on a conjugation/meaning activity to review verbs.

Today we started practicing for our Interpersonal task, holding a conversation with another student for a set amount of time.  The students were surprised at how LONG 2 minutes can be when trying to converse in Spanish.  One of our goals this year is to improve their ability to maintain conversations in Spanish. Try listening to (and signing along with) this song to improve your pronunciation.

We also talked about the interpretive task, which includes comparing a Spanish student's schedule with our own school schedule.

We then practiced adjectives, noun/adjective agreement and making comparisons before starting our very first quiz in Level 2. *If you miss class YOU are responsible for setting up a time outside of class to take the quiz!

Finally, we took notes on Regular Verbs (G. p. 4 - Notes on Moodle).

We took notes on Comparisons (G. p. & - Notes on Moodle).

There is a QUIZ scheduled for NEXT class (Tuesday/Wednesday 17/18 Sept.).  On the quiz students will have to make sentences plural, use adjectives correctly (STUDY ALL ADJECTIVES FROM THE FIRST TWO PAGES OF THE VOCABULARY LIST!) and use comparisons (más adj. que, menos adj. que, tan adj. como.)  The Moodle homework is a GREAT practice for the quiz!

Here is a great website to help you study the adjectives (you will need to write them in Spanish and spell them correctly with NO word bank on the quiz!)  http://www.spanishdict.com/flashcards/108223/los-adjectivos-de-unidad-1-espaol-ii
